Blue Flames

A few months ago, a friend taught a sourdough bread class in my kitchen. She shared how the gas company will come out as a free service to calibrate your ovens. This has been on my Things to Do list for a long time, so I finally made the appointment. It was still weeks away.
The gas company man had finally arrived! I showed him our range and asked if he would check the flames on our burners. Two of the burner tops weren't igniting as well. I was a little embarrassed when he pointed out the tops had been switched. (Every once in a while, I have cleaners come do a deep cleaning and love how they clean all of the appliances.)
VERY IMPORTANT: A blue flame on a gas stove is what you want. If the flame is all yellow, do NOT use it! Shut it off, ventilate your kitchen well and call the gas company ASAP. You don't want carbon monoxide poisoning.
The gas company man then started on the ovens. After a few minutes, he graciously said, "I think your oven is electric." Oops. How did I not remember that?! My range is a gas stove top with an electric oven. Blonde moment! He did say it used to be a lot more common to calibrate gas ovens (with the pilot light and all), but dual ranges have become more popular.
Save yourself time and learn from my mistake. Don't call the gas company to calibrate your ELECTRIC ovens.
